Even hybrid monsters have their day

Chapter 224 Agreement

Chapter 224 Agreement

She was happy as long as he was willing to listen to her.

So, Geng Miaowan told him all the details she had observed. After she finished, she looked at him and said in a very sincere tone, "As long as you are willing to help me, I will definitely be able to find evidence to prove that what I said is true."

Peng Yuxian suddenly recalled Lu Shuaishuai's reaction that night when he kissed her. Back then, 'Xiao Ming' had indeed told Lu Shuaishuai something he didn't know. He couldn't help but feel a little confused, but what Geng Miaowan said was far beyond his comprehension.

Ghosts? What kind of concept is that?

For a young person living in the 22nd century who has received higher education and has grown up under the influence of materialism, this is such an absurd and unreliable thing.

But Geng Miaowan's confident demeanor made him think there might be some truth to what she said. However, he quickly dismissed the idea, believing that there were absolutely no ghosts in the world.

Peng Yuxian didn't comment on the matter, which made Geng Miaowan somewhat depressed. However, she took his silence as a form of tacit approval, and that made her feel much better.

However, something happened on the way back that made Peng Yuxian waver a little.

They saw the light on on the second floor of the courtyard house from afar, but it suddenly went out when they reached the door. The two exchanged a puzzled look and cautiously entered the courtyard house.

"Could it be a thief?" Geng Miaowan whispered. Peng Yuxian made a shushing gesture and tiptoed inside. Suddenly, with a "plop," he stepped into a puddle.

He lifted his foot and looked at the puddle with a puzzled expression. He remembered that when Geng Miaowan dragged him out of the house earlier, they had walked out from this side, and there was no puddle here.

However, he quickly put the question aside and went inside.

The two searched the house thoroughly but found nothing, which puzzled them both. Geng Miaowan thought of Lu Shuaishuai. She went into his room and found him peacefully asleep in bed, which relieved her.

As I turned to leave, my eyes caught a glimpse of the toy shelf. I noticed a small airplane neatly arranged on it. It was the one Lu Shuaishuai had said he'd buy for Xiaoming at the supermarket earlier that day, but Xiaoming hadn't come over tonight, so he'd left it in the living room.

How come you are here now?

A knowing glint flashed in her eyes as she turned her head and said, "Shuai Shuai, stop pretending. I know you're still awake."

Lu Shuaishuai blinked and opened his eyes. "How did you know I wasn't asleep?"

Geng Miaowan picked up the toy airplane and shook it. Lu Shuaishuai gave an embarrassed smile. "Xiaoming came over just now. He was in a bad mood today, so I brought the toy airplane over for him to play with."

"And what about him now?"

“He left. He said you were coming back, so he left.”

"Okay, it's alright. You should go to sleep, it's very late."

"Ah."

She tucked Lu Shuaishuai in and turned around, only to see Peng Yuxian standing at the door, staring blankly at Lu Shuaishuai on the bed.

As Geng Miaowan passed by him, she said softly, "Do you think someone in a fantasy world could know we're about to come in from outside and have Shuai Shuai turn off the lights and pretend to be asleep?"

Peng Yuxian opened his mouth as if to refute, but couldn't find any words to say.

The next day, when she arrived at the kindergarten, she ran into the principal in the hallway. She quickly went over and asked, "Principal, did you look into what I asked you the other day?"

The headmistress thought for a moment, "Oh. You mean that matter? I've been forgetting to tell you. I've had someone check all the cases from the past few years, and there's no one named Xiaoming. There are a dozen or so children with 'Ming' in their names, but none of them live next door to Lu Shuaishuai."

"Oh, okay, thank you for your help." Although she didn't get what she wanted, she still thanked him politely. Turning around, she met Peng Yuxian's scrutinizing gaze. "Are you really investigating?"

"Of course, why not investigate? As long as I can find Xiaoming, I can prove that I am right."

"But the headmaster also said that there is no such person." He was clearly still unwilling to believe it.

“If you don’t find it, then keep investigating.” She wouldn’t give up so easily. “You don’t have to believe what I’m saying, but you can’t stop me from investigating this. We agreed on this last night, so you can’t go back on your word.”

Geng Miaowan looked at him with a completely distrustful expression, as if he might change his mind at any moment.

Peng Yuxian shrugged, "I never said I was going to back out." He had an expression that said, "You're overthinking it."

The weather was nice that day; it was unusually sunny but also dry, and not too hot—quite pleasant. Lu Fang and his wife had arranged to have dinner with Geng Miaowan to thank her for taking care of Lu Shuaishuai during this time.

Geng Miaowan originally intended to refuse, but after thinking about Xiaoming's situation, she finally agreed.

Since Lu Fang and the others returned, she hasn't had a proper chance to talk to them. She might as well take this opportunity to connect with them.

She just didn't understand why Peng Yuxian insisted on coming along.

Inside the restaurant, Lu Fangtong, Jiang Lan, and Lu Shuaishuai were already waiting.

Upon seeing the two of them, Peng Yuxian walked over first, smiling and saying, "Sorry, you won't mind if I come uninvited, will you?"

No wonder he's a psychologist; once he said that, who could say they minded? Geng Miaowan thought he had the potential to be shameless.

Lu Fangtong and Jiang Lan quickly smiled and said, "Not at all, we would be honored if you could come."

With that, the group took their seats.

Lu Fangtong was a respected figure in Xinglin Town, so his reservation at the restaurant was naturally quite high-end, arguably the best in the town. However, Geng Miaowan wasn't particular about what she ate, and Peng Yuxian's intentions were clearly ulterior motives, though Geng Miaowan had no idea what they were.

So when the dishes were served, none of them actually ate anything.

Lu Fangtong looked at Geng Miaowan several times, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back. Finally, at Jiang Lan's prompting, he spoke up, "Teacher Geng, I... I have something I want to say to you. I hope you won't mind."

Geng Miaowan was taken aback. Judging from his expression, she had a feeling that he didn't want to say anything nice, but since he had already spoken, she couldn't refuse. So she said, "Mr. Lu, please feel free to say what you have to say."

“Then I’ll be frank,” Lu Fangtong said, a hint of unease flashing across his face, “It’s just…we hope you can stop interfering in Lu Shuaishuai’s affairs from now on.” (To be continued.)
