Chapter 56 An Ordinary Squad on the Border
Chapter 56 An Ordinary Squad on the Border
The group followed Zuo Qing to the headquarters and soon received their new uniforms and a pixel particle.
"This is the ship left behind by the leader of the Shangxie Society. It can support you as you enter the mist and sail the seas. As for the leader, you will naturally understand when you meet her. Before that, we cannot reveal anything about her."
Wang took the pixel particles, inquired about their usage, and then led the group towards the airport without further questioning.
Since they are going to the Mist, they naturally won't be equipped with airplanes. For now, they can only take a civilian flight to the southern border. Once they get there, they can then discuss how to enter the Mist.
On the plane, Ling Yunxiao was resting with his eyes closed when Han Shaoyun's voice rang out.
What lies beyond the mist? Is it other nations reduced to ruins? Is it a terrifying toxin that kills with every breath? Or... the Outer Gods, entrenched between their respective divine realms?
"There are golden treasures, fruits that grant superpowers, and lots of beautiful women in bikinis."
"Why don't you mention Observation Haki, Armament Haki, and Conqueror's Haki? You? And you want to become the Pirate King?"
"Hahaha……"
Ling Yunxiao, who had been listening intently to Han Shaoyun and Wu Tongxuan's discussion, suddenly burst out laughing. He hadn't expected there to be pirates in this world; he just wondered if the story had ended.
"No matter what happens! When we set out, not a blade of grass will grow; we will kill gods and Buddhas alike!"
Si Xiaonan slammed her hand on the small table with an air of authority, immediately attracting the flight attendant's unfriendly gaze. She quickly stuck out her tongue and lowered her head.
"Xiao Nan is right. We will surely return with a full harvest after our expedition."
Wang smiled gently, then looked out the airplane window. His eyes crinkled as he noticed a very cloudy cloud on the horizon.
Three hours later, the plane landed. After getting off the plane, the group took a bus for about four hours to reach their destination.
They got off the bus, each of them looking pale and unsteady on their feet, and headed toward the local Night Watch squad's base.
Soon, they stopped in front of a children's after-school care center, where a middle-aged woman quickly came to greet them.
"Gentlemen, are you here for a working lunch or to observe the environment and drop off your children? We're here..."
"Cough cough cough... We're looking for Wang Zhiwei, we're his friends."
"Old Wang, come out here, someone is looking for you."
Seeing that there was no business, the woman shouted inside and then looked at other passersby.
Soon, a middle-aged man wearing a wool sweater and looking very scholarly came out. After seeing the cloaks on the group, he immediately smiled.
"Sister Chun Ya, this is our Great Xia 005 Rebirth Team. How come you didn't recognize us? Please come in and have a seat! There are no outsiders inside at this time."
Upon hearing this, Chun Ya smiled shyly. She didn't usually read the internal news and didn't recognize the group's ornate cloaks.
The group walked into the small dining table, and Chun Ya smiled and guided them into the largest dining room, while she herself went to the cafeteria.
"We've come here abruptly to disturb you because we're hoping to leave the pass and venture into the mist. So, we've come to ask you to show us the way."
"Going into the mist? My god! As expected of the strongest special forces team, they always do big things. Let's eat first! Chun Ya's cooking is pretty good. You guys must have had a long journey from the capital. The mist is especially dangerous tonight. Let's eat and rest for a day, and go out tomorrow morning..."
"Brother Wang, Sister Chun Ya said a special team is coming? There's nothing serious happening in our border town, where would a special team come from? Don't tell me they're scammers..."
Suddenly, a dark-skinned boy pushed open the door. By the time he saw everyone, he was almost finished speaking. Everyone looked up at the boy, who immediately jumped for joy.
"Wang Mian! Ling Yunxiao! It really is you two!"
The group was taken aback, not expecting to run into an acquaintance here. This person was none other than Li Jia, one of Shen Qingzhu's three henchmen. He was supposed to have died in Jinan Mountain, but because Ling Yunxiao and the others intervened beforehand, he never left the recruit training camp and thus survived.
"Li Jia, wow! You've gotten so tanned!"
"The sun's really strong here! Haha... I never expected to run into acquaintances here. Are you here on a case? I don't know anything about cases in this small town."
Li Jia sat down next to Ling Yunxiao with a cheerful smile. During the New Year, he and the other three had been treated to an incredibly luxurious bowl of noodles by Ling Yunxiao, so he naturally recognized him. As for Wang Mian (a type of noodle), the memory from the recruit training camp was so vivid that it was hard to forget!
"It's nothing, we're just passing by. We'll eat something and then leave."
After flying and transferring, we were definitely hungry. However, we wouldn't stay to rest that night; getting on with our journey was more important.
After Wang finished speaking to Li Jia with a smile, he turned to look at Wang Zhiwei.
Li Jia nodded, then got up and rushed out again. Wang Zhiwei shook his head with a wry smile, wondering where this young man got his energy from, always so full of passion and energy.
Soon, plates of delicious food were served, each one a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate.
"No wonder the other teams are either in offices or bases, but you guys run a small restaurant. With Chun Ya's cooking skills, it's a waste that you're not running a restaurant."
After Ling Yunxiao finished eating a bite of food, his eyes lit up, and he praised it sincerely.
"No, that's not it. This place isn't big, but there are quite a few working people here. The purpose of our small catering service is simply to help the neighbors take care of their children, and the fees are very low. Now, the people working nearby occasionally come here for a meal. You see how busy she is."
In reality, not only do I barely make any money each month, but Chun Ya also has to subsidize some of it herself.
Wang Zhiwei served himself a bowl of rice and said cheerfully.
Chun Ya felt a little embarrassed by what he said, glared at him, and then reached out to put a chicken leg on Si Xiaonan's plate.
“Don’t listen to his nonsense. We night watchmen are well paid, I don’t need that little bit of money. The main thing is that there’s nothing to do in this small place, so I’m finding something to do. Seeing the kids eating happily makes me happy too.”
The group exchanged glances, their eyes filled with a sense of normalcy. Local squads mostly worked quietly to protect the people and do other tasks along the way. Of course, Ling Yunxiao wasn't among those who were used to it; in fact, because he hadn't participated in recruit training, he was unaware of many of the specifics.
Aside from the daily routines of Squad 136, he had almost no contact with other squads. Therefore, he was extremely shocked. He suddenly recalled how, during the divine war, countless Night Watchmen used the spirit guide and their own bodies to shield the people from the aftershocks of the battle.
Ling Yunxiao secretly vowed that he would never let this happen. Even if it cost him his life, he would protect the people in front of him.
