Chapter 518 We can cooperate
"Squeak-"
The dusty door was no longer locked and was easily pushed open by Catherine.
The pouring moonlight still illuminated the bright little tree below, and Canion was still unconsciously trapped at the tree's roots.
She didn't dare to look at his miserable state any longer, she just lit up the illumination spell and squatted down.
The bricks and stones on the ground were also carved with different plant patterns. Phoebe walked carefully and always walked on the same path, but just now when Catherine and she walked out, they found that there were some broken bricks and stones in places they had not set foot on.
These were not as continuous as those made by Phoebe and myself. It was as if after I first stepped on them and found that the bricks and stones would break, I stepped extra lightly. However, the tiles were badly aged and breaking was still inevitable, leaving intermittent cracks.
Catherine stood up, summoned the magic broom and rode on it, controlling her speed and floating slowly at low altitude, following the traces until they disappeared.
She looked up. Beyond the cracks, a dark staircase opened, a terrifying sight, like a monster with its mouth open, trying to trick travelers into entering. If Lilith were here, she'd surely have excitedly rushed in to explore...
Lilith...
"Meow?"
The yellow kitten jumped onto the front of the broom, turned its head and rubbed its owner's fingers affectionately, as if to give her courage.
"Thank you." Catherine came back to her senses and touched it gently. Then she raised the front end of the broom and flew directly to the second floor of the circular building.
This floor was also covered with dust. The walls on the inside of the corridor were all peeling off, and many of the closed glass windows had long been broken. Catherine looked inside with the light in her hand, and saw that everything was empty.
Most of the carved doors were pierced by dragon blood vines. The dark purple vines had bumps on their surface, and as Catherine approached, they made tiny crackling sounds. Hearing the approach of a living creature, its hunting instinct was aroused.
"what--"
The little yellow cat on the broom stood up with its fur standing on end, and breathed threateningly at the quietly moving dragon blood vines, not caring at all whether the plants could understand what it meant.
Catherine ignored it. The dragon blood vine could only prey on small creatures and was no threat to the witch. Under the strong light of the light magic, a row of clear footprints appeared in the dust on the second floor. She followed the footprints to a door and was dazzled by a golden reflection.
what is that?
As the dragon blood vine moved, something seemed to be hidden underneath, gleaming. She moved closer and used her wind blade to cut the vines there, only to discover a nameplate with cursive characters on the door. Apparently, this was the office of the elf teachers in the past.
There were two lines of words written on it. Catherine couldn't understand the first line, but she guessed it was Elvish. Although the words below were already rusted and mottled, Catherine still recognized the words on top -
Giselle.
In the dead of night, Catherine, hovering in mid-air, gasped.
After an unknown amount of time, she mustered up the courage to push open the door.
Like other offices, the curtains here had long since rotted away, leaving only a few rags hanging on the horizontal bar. The desk that should have been piled with books and lesson plans was empty. Catherine held up a light and looked closer, finding three traces of wiping on the desk.
It was as if someone was revisiting the old place with nostalgia, gently brushing across it with their fingertips.
Catherine followed the trace and touched it gently, then turned and left the room.
"Are you looking for me?"
A voice sounded faintly from the darkness, almost making Catherine fall off her broom.
"Meow--!"
The little yellow cat got angry again. It jumped off the broom and kept breathing in the direction of the small tree. But when Catherine looked in that direction, she only saw the golden tree and Canion under the tree.
Who is there?
Fortunately, the person who came didn't intend to scare Catherine. With light footsteps, a slender shadow suddenly appeared in Catherine's sight. She looked at it in surprise, even though she hadn't blinked...
It’s that, that female elf named Giselle!
She appeared as if to soothe Catherine's emotions. Seeing that she had relaxed, she turned around and observed the figure under the small sacred tree. The moonlight shone on her, and her figure began to become blurry again.
Is this... the power of the night elves? Catherine looked at her back, her heart filled with shock and doubt.
"Very creative." Giselle observed the young elf on the ground, her tone full of appreciation.
The royal elves are different from other elves. They were born from the sacred tree and their connection with the sacred tree is much closer than that of any other species. The person who cast the spell deceived the small tree, making it recognize the elf as a part of itself, living in symbiosis with it, and forcibly prolonging the elf's life.
This method is truly adventurous and imaginative. It seems that even without the elves over the years, Gloria has not made no progress. They are indeed as creative as the Mother Goddess said.
Catherine had already landed, but she was not as relaxed as Giselle. Seeing Giselle so close to Canien, her heart was in her throat.
"How did you survive until now, Giselle...Teacher." Catherine felt that this night elf didn't like those beating around the bush, so she simply asked her biggest question.
"I sacrificed my soul to the Dark Moon Goddess in exchange for immortality." She actually answered every question.
"Elves are already a long-lived species."
"Yes, living a long life is a boring thing. All those grudges, disputes, popular dramas or costumes, they all repeat themselves every few years. There is not much new in this world... But I have to live, little girl."
After observing Canion enough, Giselle took a few steps back. Now her body was no longer transparent and Catherine could see her clearly again.
"You are more proactive than I thought, Your Majesty." Giselle never looked back.
"You want me to find you, don't you?" Catherine said with certainty, otherwise she would not have deliberately told her name when she was in the sea of fire.
"What are you here for? Revenge?" Before Giselle could answer, Catherine asked and quickly added, "You don't have to tell me why. Whatever you want to do, do it."
"But we can cooperate," she said courageously.
Giselle finally turned around and looked at the young crown prince.
