Chapter 115 China's Best Toad
Chapter 115 China's Best Toad
So I said, "Brother Toad, we are so grateful for your mercy in sparing our lives. If there's nothing else, we'll be leaving now."
I tried to keep my tone calm, but who knows if that toad will change his mind?
“Why call me Brother Toad? It sounds too formal. Just call me Tovsky Gege,” the toad said enthusiastically.
Holy crap, where did this toad come from? Is it some kind of toad that's studied abroad? This name is just so incredibly artistic.
But those last two words, "lumps," are such a perfect description! Looking at the lumps on that toad's body, I almost threw up.
I guess I'm still a normal person after all; I guess I still can't communicate properly.
"Brother Tovsky, if there's nothing else, I'll be going now?" I asked again.
"Hey, how can you leave? The latest competition for China's Best Toad is about to start. What you just said really made me realize something. So you absolutely can't leave. You have to stay and cheer me on!" Natovsky said earnestly.
Holy crap, what is all this nonsense? "Good Chinese toad," why do they always add prefixes these days? You guys are clearly living in the countryside.
Why not call it "Rural World"? That would be closer to your theme.
Damn clickbait headlines.
Faced with that toad brother's invitation, I was speechless. I had things to do, how could I have time to go to your so-called China's Best Toad?
But what if I refuse? What if Brother Toad gets angry and eats me?
I'm so conflicted! Should I go or not?
What reason should I give to refuse? I've racked my brains but can't come up with a suitable one.
Just then, Dafu's voice came over, and she asked with great confusion, "What are we going there in? For dessert?"
Holy crap, dessert my ass! I just managed to calm that toad down and make him forget that we were his food.
But Dafu's words reminded the toad that we were his food. If we went to see the Chinese Good Toad, wouldn't that be like giving him a snack?
If you go in, will you come out alive? That would be like throwing a dog to a dog – a one-way trip.
It was too late for me to stop Dafu, and only then did the toad remember that we were flies.
We're his food, so why are you calling me brother?
I thought what followed would be another extremely dangerous escape, but it wasn't. The toad seemed a little embarrassed and said, "I was so happy that I forgot who you two were."
"It's okay, it's okay," I said, swallowing hard.
As long as you let me go, even if you forget who I am, or even if you completely forget me, I won't have the slightest complaint. It would be best if you forgot me.
I pleaded in my heart, "I don't want you to remember who I am and then eat me."
"I'm so sorry you won't be able to participate in this year's 'Good Toad China' competition," the toad said, looking very dejected.
"It's okay, it's okay." I quickly shook my head like a rattle.
I was thinking, "Please let us go quickly. I don't want to participate in that 'Good Toad of China' thing at all. I just want to get on my way and don't want to think about anything else."
"Then I'm going to sign up for the audition. Have a safe trip and be careful on your way," the toad said in a very friendly manner.
Damn it, hurry up and leave. I'm just waiting for you to leave. That's what I was thinking, but I couldn't say it out loud.
So I said very politely, "Brother Toad, take care. I wish you great success and a place in history."
"Thank you for your kind words, brother. I'll be going now." The toad hopped around and looked back three times, appearing very reluctant to leave.
"Take care, brother!" I called out loudly as I watched the toad's figure.
I stared blankly as the toad disappeared from my sight.
"Alright, stop acting, they've all disappeared," said Dafu, who was standing next to me.
"This is my true feeling, how is that considered faking it?" I shouted, quite annoyed.
"Your expression is too obvious. Others may not know, but I know you well," Dafu said with a grin.
"Is it that obvious?" I asked, quite frustrated.
"It's so obvious. It's only because that toad looks so cute that I didn't fall for your trick," Dafu said with a laugh.
"What do you mean by lying? I really had genuine feelings for my toad brother," I said, quite annoyed.
"Are you afraid your toad brother will eat you?" Dafu said, quite annoyed.
"How could that be? How could my older brother eat me?" I said, quite annoyed.
"If you're not afraid, why are you running?" Dafu called out from behind me.
"I wanted to hurry on my way, but didn't you see it's already getting dark? If I don't leave now, how will I get anywhere later?" I said as I flew into the air.
I couldn't fly because I got wet from the water, but because of the toad that delayed me for so long, I'm basically dry now.
So I hurriedly headed towards the town with Dafu, hoping that nothing else would happen.
But as if the heavens were conspiring against me, thunder suddenly rumbled in the sky, and the wind began to pick up.
Holy crap, this looks like it's going to rain, and it looks like a downpour! How am I supposed to fly like this? Are you kidding me?
Just moments ago the sun was shining, but suddenly a strong wind picked up, and raindrops began to fall slowly, like stones hitting the ground.
We can't continue on this road, so let's find somewhere to shelter from the rain. Luckily, there's a big tree not far ahead, and that tree will be perfect for sheltering us from the rain.
It looks like the spring rain has run out; it should be fine in a while.
The so-called "running downpour" is a type of rainstorm that comes and goes quickly, but the rain is exceptionally fierce, and it can no longer be called rain.
It was like being drenched in water; going outside was like taking the Ice Bucket Challenge—you'd be soaked instantly. But the temperature wasn't high yet, so it was even colder.
Luckily, Dafu and I rushed towards the big tree the moment we saw it was about to rain. Otherwise, with this heavy rain, we would have been dead and our bodies wouldn't even be found.
But the rain was really heavy. As the saying goes, it's raining heavily outside and drizzling inside. Although we are safe for now, we are soaked. In order to fly, in addition to the rain stopping, we also need to be completely dry.
We managed to hide under a leaf, which made things a little better.
Just then, a man and a woman rushed towards the tree.
