Chapter 365 Experimenting with Rabbits
Chapter 365 Experimenting with Rabbits
Hearing her daughter's words, Madam Liu was startled, but still asked...
"You're thinking?"
Xia Yu nodded and said solemnly.
"I want to test what the effects of these fruits are. If possible, I want to give the villagers something to save their lives."
"No, I disagree. Have you considered the consequences if this gets discovered?" Liu shouted, her voice filled with agitation.
"Mother, don't worry, I'll try it out first. What if this fruit is just good for beauty and skin care?" Xia Yu reassured Liu Shi, thinking of the petal she had accidentally eaten earlier.
After saying that, seeing that Liu still didn't believe him, he spoke again to comfort her.
"Mother, don't worry. Even if this fruit has miraculous effects on knife and sword wounds, I will try to make it into pills or medicine for everyone. I will not put myself in danger."
"Xiaxia, no matter what treasures you carry, in your mother's heart you will always be my daughter. I don't ask for anything else, I just hope that you can be healthy all your life and avoid any disasters or hardships." Madam Liu stroked her daughter's face, her eyes slightly red.
Hearing Liu's words, Xia Yu's heart felt as warm as if it were being basked in the sun.
"Mother, I know I will be careful. I hope that when I am eighty years old, I can still eat the sesame oil steamed eggs made by my own hands."
Although she knew her daughter was just trying to amuse her, Liu couldn't help but imagine the scene: her daughter, also with a full head of white hair, tugging at her sleeve and begging for steamed eggs. Liu smiled and patted her daughter lightly.
"By then, Mother will be a decrepit old woman with a full head of white hair, blind and clumsy."
"Hehe, you will always be the most beautiful mother to your daughter. Even if you are an old lady, you will definitely be the most beautiful old lady."
Zhang Youtie had been sitting and drinking tea, listening to the two men talk. Now, he finally put down his cup and said...
"Go ahead, try whatever you want to do, at least you'll have no regrets."
"Thank you, Dad. I'll be going now. You'll have to take care of Mom." With that, she grabbed the box of fruit and ran off.
After her daughter's figure disappeared out of the courtyard, Madam Liu looked at Zhang Youtie with a hint of reproach.
"You too, you know how extraordinary the things that came out of her treasure are. Once others find out about those things, do you think our daughter will be able to live peacefully?"
"Ah, how could I not know that? But you can't expect her to be so focused on her treasure and ignore the villagers who are going to war. Anyway, we don't know what special effects that fruit has, so it's good to try it out. Maybe it really is as my daughter says, only good for beauty and skin care!"
Hearing him say the same thing, Madam Liu fell silent.
Xia Yu took the two fruits back to her room and closed the door.
In the blink of an eye, she took out two large basins from her spatial storage and placed them on the floor of the room, with several small cups inside. Then she took out a knife, intending to remove a small piece of flesh from one of the fruits.
To Xia Yu's surprise, there wasn't a single piece of flesh under the thin peel; it was all sweet juice. Ignoring the juice dripping down her hand, Xia Yu quickly caught it in a cup.
After all the juice had drained from the fruit, leaving only a nearly transparent peel, Xia Yu initially considered throwing it away. However, she felt it was a waste, so she placed it in a separate cup.
After doing all that, Xia Yu poured the juice from that glass into several other glasses.
He held the knife to his finger for a long time, but in the end, he couldn't bring himself to cut it.
Xia Yu left the room and locked the door. She decided to go out and find a few rabbits to experiment with, since this wasn't just a matter of cutting a wound.
Hearing Xia Yu lock the door, Nineteen came out of the room and asked...
"Miss, where are you going?"
"I'm going to the mountains to catch rabbits."
"I'll go with you, Miss."
Just as Xia Yu finished answering Nineteen's question, Da Niu rushed out from another side room, shouting.
"Shh, I didn't say I wasn't taking you guys, why are you shouting so loudly?" Xia Yu quickly gestured for Da Niu to be quiet.
"Okay, Miss, I understand. I'll keep my voice down from now on. Let's go catch some rabbits and roast them in the yard tonight." Da Niu's mouth moved, but Xia Yu could only see her mouth moving; she couldn't hear a word she was saying. She only saw that the first lip movement was "okay."
"Hey girl, I don't know lip reading, how can I speak normally?" Xia Yu wanted to roll her eyes.
"Miss, Sister Daniu said we went to catch a rabbit and will roast it in the yard tonight," Nineteen translated for Xia Yu.
"Oh, we won't be able to have roasted rabbit. I have some use for these rabbits, but I can give them to you when I'm done," Xia Yu said to the two girls.
She had barely finished speaking when she realized the problem, abruptly turning to look at Nineteen, and asked in surprise.
"Nineteen, how did you know what Da Niu just said?"
“I was reading lips!” Nineteen replied matter-of-factly.
"You can read lips?"
"Yes, I do. I studied with my master for a while, didn't you know, Miss?" Nineteen nodded seriously, then asked Xia Yu in return.
"Of course I didn't know. You never said you could read lips. I only knew you could do martial arts and disguise, but I never knew you could read lips!" As she said this, Xia Yu was trying hard to recall if she had ever secretly told Nineteen a secret in front of him.
"I forgot to mention, it's not like I have any great abilities." After saying that, Nineteen thought of Xia Yu's previous style and looked at Xia Yu again, then asked another question.
"Miss, would you like to learn lip reading?"
"Uh, no." Xia Yu shook her head and refused.
The topic of lip reading is above the paragraph. The master and servants went up the mountain and quickly found a nest of rabbits, two big ones and six small ones. They took the whole family of eight.
Using their light-footed skills, the group grabbed the rabbit and headed down the mountain, completing the round trip in less than half an hour.
Xia Yu put several rabbits in a basket, and then locked herself in the house.
To better observe whether the juice had any healing effect on the wound, Xia Yu first removed the fur from the legs of several rabbits. The rabbits without their fur looked, well, not very good-looking.
Xia Yu first grabbed one of the larger rabbits and, without hesitation, cut a two-centimeter-long gash in its thigh. When someone cuts a gash in its body, the rabbit immediately started whimpering and its four legs kept thrashing, trying to break free from Xia Yu's grip.
While gently comforting the little rabbit, Xia Yu dipped her finger into one of the juice cups and lightly applied it to the cut she had made.
One minute later, there was no movement.
Another minute passed, and still nothing happened.
Xia Yu thought for a moment and prepared to wait another minute, but there was still no reaction. Looking at the incision, which was exactly the same as when it was first cut, Xia Yu felt that it was truly useless.
Then Xia Yu picked up a glass with the least amount of juice. There was only a tiny bit of juice at the bottom of the glass. If she poured it out, there would probably be two or three drops.
She brought the cup to the struggling rabbit's mouth, pouring one drop onto its nose and another onto its face. Fortunately, as the rabbit stuck out its tongue to lick the drop of juice from its nose, Xia Yu accurately placed the last drop onto its tongue.
Xia Yu then stared at the wound, waiting to see if there were any changes. The result was the same as before; there was still no change.
Xia Yu felt a little discouraged, and then carefully examined the rabbit's face, but it didn't seem to have become any more beautiful! So what exactly are the effects of this fruit?
After waiting a while longer, the wound still showed no change. Xia Yu, unwilling to give up, brought a glass of juice with a little more filling and fed it to the rabbit.
This time, the rabbit didn't struggle and obediently opened its mouth to let all the juice flow into it.
Xia Yu continued to wait and see the result, but in the end, she was disappointed because the wound had not healed properly.
Xia Yu put the rabbit back in the cage with a hint of frustration, then looked at the fruit peel. Xia Yu picked it up and took a small bite.
"Ugh, so sour!" Xia Yu was jolted by the sour taste in her mouth and flung the fruit peel out of her hand.
Seeing the fruit peels thrown into the rabbit basket, Xia Yu couldn't understand why the fruit peels were so sour, since the juice smelled so sweet.
But the rabbits seemed to really like the smell of the fruit peel. They first sniffed it, and each of the seven rabbits ate a small bite of the peel. The largest piece left was given to the rabbit that Xia Yu had used for the experiment.
Xia Yu ignored the rabbit and drank all the remaining juice in the cups. She felt a rich, refreshing syrup slide down her throat and into her stomach. Then, a warm current flowed through her veins and into all directions of her body—a truly magical feeling. Xia Yu felt as if her entire body was enveloped in a hot spring, warm and dizzy, making her want to take a good nap.
In fact, Xia Yu did get up and lie down on the soft bed.
