Chapter 321: The Return Of The Ghost!
Chapter 321: The Return Of The Ghost!
A figure appeared right in front of the horsemen and everyone’s heart dropped, there was something familiar about it as the crow settled on its shoulder.
Rachel and Dimitris knew that the crow belonged to this man but why were the zombies reacting this way?
One of the horsemen immediately charged towards the figure but in the blink of an eye, it had its face smashed against the ground.
No one could track his movement, the first thing they saw was a zombie on the horse and with a blink, he was on the ground with its head smashed in.
"What...!?" Dimitris blurted out, if this thing decided to kill them, they wouldn’t even be able to react to the attack.
"We need to fucking leave!" Dimitris didn’t hide his fear but Rachel stood still in a daze.
"Rachel! Snap out of it!" Dimitris barked but instead, Rachel began to walk towards the figure.
The other horsemen stood still, they couldn’t move for reasons that went beyond their control.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" Dimitris cussed, he hadn’t felt fear like this since he was born, it was unparalleled because if their eyes couldn’t even react to his movement then there was no way in hell they could even defend themselves against it but wait a minute, if the crow belonged to it then that meant this creature was the one that owned it.
"Is that you...?" Rachel asked, walking towards the being as tears began to stream down her face.
Dimitris ran towards Rachel, he had to get her out of there even if force was the action he had to resort to.
But he noticed the horsemen were in suspended animation and if this thing was responsible for this then why was it helping them?
Dimitris grabbed her by the shoulder and yanked her away but she tried to resist so he had no choice but to knock her out before throwing her across his shoulder.
He caught a glimpse of the creature’s back, there was something familiar about it and at that moment, he understood why Rachel walked towards it.
It would make sense, if this creature could stop the zombies the way it just did these horsemen then maybe that was why they never came close to the community. And there was only one person that came to mind when he thought about it.
"Jason... is that you?" Dimitris questioned but he got no response from the man.
All that came was absolute silence, he got no response to his question but the creature did say something.
"G-Get out of here..." The voice was unfamiliar, barely audible but Dimitris had confirmed what he wished to know.
Without wasting a second, Dimitris took Rachel and fled the area.
It was believed that the gunshot was what drew these creatures here but what if it was the crow that has been flying?
What if they had somehow sensed it or tracked it, there was no telling how long these crows had been watching the area and if they belonged to Jason as everyone believed then it would have residue of his energy easily making enemies perceive it as him.
Jason could hide his aura so finding him was difficult but he couldn’t hide the aura of others hence the crowd being detectable.
The moment Rachel and Dimitris were out of harm’s way, the horsemen regained the ability to move and then, the cloak came off.
It was a deformed man, whose face had taken the shape of something grotesque but there was something that made indemnifying him possible and that was his red eyes.
Jason took out his sword and it glowed, he had synced with it because the moment he unsheathed it, it began to glow.
One of the horsemen charged towards him, thrusting its spear forward in a bid to stab his midsection but Jason didn’t move an inch.
The spear made contact with his body but it couldn’t penetrate the skin; the other horseman didn’t plan to allow Jason to have his way.
It tossed its spear right at his head but without looking, Jason snatched the spear out of the air despite it being in his blindspot.
And with a single motion, he decapitated the horseman who had just tried to stab him.
It couldn’t even react to the swing as its head dropped to the ground. For the first time.
It is unknown how but the last zombie left felt something that it had only now understood.
At a new stage in the evolutionary tree, it felt fear as the fight or flight response was triggered.
It chose flight response, it didn’t understand what it was feeling but it immediately tried to flee.
However, Jason wasn’t going to allow it to leave and he casually took the spear he had in his hand.
And turned around, the zombie was already out of sight but somehow, Jason didn’t panic.
And threw the spear with devastating accuracy, impaling the zombie’s head.
"You can have that back..." Jason muttered under his breath. It was clear that he was closer to being one of them than he was to being human.
But why was Jason hiding all this time and why was he only resurfacing now? Where was Chronos?
-
Clementine had entered a comatose state or would it be more accurate to say whatever Scheider had placed in her. That was no longer Clementine but something entirely different.
"I have found you," Schneider said with a sinister grin but there was something wrong with the vessel that Chronos had inhabited.
It was slowly losing its life, this was the disadvantage of taking over a living body, if the vessel wasn’t strong enough, it would eventually break apart.
And Schneider’s body was nearing its limit.
It needed Jason and now so the timing of this was perfect.
But unlike the defunct evolved zombies that had managed to act on their own.
One would think that they acted against Chronos but was this the case?
It wasn’t, everything that happened with the evolved zombies was to draw Jason out.
He knew that there was no way Jason wouldn’t show himself if he moved against those that were closest to him but Chronos wasn’t sure where he would make an appearance.
Now he could make his move, the showdown was about to begin with.
And with that, he unveiled the five strongest zombies he had created that were just like him.
They had living vessels but they had completely overrode their brain giving them advantages that went beyond the evolved zombies.
"Bring me Jason or kill anyone he cares about," Schneider commanded and the evolved ’humans’ nodded showing that they were capable of actual thought processes.
He walked over to Clementine’s crystalized body and knew that Jason must have evolved beyond expectations if he could take out the horsemen without breaking a single sweat.
But this also meant that he must have sacrificed his humanity to make this happen, meaning that the infection in him had spread beyond control.
Chronos knew that the same way he was linked to Jason due to his ties with one of his fragments was the same way Jason was connected to him.
If Jason had learned to control Chronos or rather the variant in him then there was no telling what he would be capable of.
But ’Chronos’ was aware that Jason had become a threat and he had been waiting for this day.
However, he wasn’t sure about one thing, how much did Jason know about them because the link he shared with his variant had been cut off.
But he could still feel his presence and there was no way he wouldn’t come for Clementine.
All he had to do was wait.
-
Sam couldn’t shake the feeling but he just knew that Clementine was in trouble.
There was something wrong about this because it could just be the fragment messing with him but the fragment’s influence over his mind had lessened since he came into contact with this woman so why was he feeling this way?
"Are you okay?" The lady asked but Sam didn’t bother giving her a response because he didn’t know where next he had to go but something told him that something terrible was about to happen.
He couldn’t shake it off and before they could walk any further, a dead crow appeared right in front of them but before it could do anything.
Sam killed it by tossing one of his daggers right at its head without it even having time to react, this once again showed how skilled Sam was with weapons.
The lady was surprised by his reaction but a swarm of them soon descended from above but they didn’t attack, a behaviour that Sam noted was strange.
He would have killed these birds on a normal day but this was abnormal behavior.
Also, there were too many for him to fight them alone without incurring injuries.
Unlike humans, birds not only had faster reaction speed but they were a lot harder to hit.
Sam watched what they wanted to do but to his surprise, the crowd were writing something into the earth, pecking away at the terrain.
Sam’s eyes widened upon seeing what was inscribed into the floor.
(It has Clementine...)
